Not an easy job

Nowadays being a PM or Head of Government is no longer an easy job. Well, it still comes with generous perks and VVIP status, but it also comes with much greater risk than before. These days if a fraction of the society is against you and stage nationwide protest, you better cut your losses early and step down quickly. It is a gamble if you stay longer hoping the protest will subside or to rely on the police to take care of situations. One wrong step you might end up in the most wanted list, or living a life in exile if you are lucky enough to exit before the coup.

These days the power of the people is unpredictable and can lead to a far worst outcome than its intention. Looking at some countries in the Middle East and Africa, it is hard to see any solution in my lifetime. Here in Malaysia things appear to be under control as we still have strong leadership and political structure that kept the country together, at least half of it. But in years to come, we might face with the same situation like in Middle East, Africa, Ukraine and our closest neighbour Thailand. May be it won't be as bad since both Malaysia and Thailand have the Rulers as the final barrier from lawlessness. For now the people still have respect for the constitution and the Rulers since they are seen as a divine institution, not as corrupted individuals with immunity and constitutional power that we see elsewhere.

But who can tell what lies ahead right?
