People are just too emotional lately. What was supposed to be a simple democratic exercise to hear their minds turned out to be a point for harassment and disrespect. All thanks to the free and irresponsible media and certain attention-seeking groups. It goes to show that no one bother to read the detailed study accompanying those surveys. Clearly they rather react negatively first without checking the finer details. Just like GST, the issues are universal, experienced in other countries and a real concern in the years to come. Not something just coined overnight. But as usual, people only read the sensational headlines, and listen to the narrow views without studying the facts and rationale behind those ideas. And at the end the day it was just a survey, not a final decision. Why bring emotions into it?
The insults and disrespect for the institution were totally unnecessary and unfair. Sure, people should be free to speak their mind, but their minds also have to be free and open to hear others.
